(BTW: Is Natalia a lesbian? Then so am I)

Nah, she's not. It was just some strong emotional attachment to a fellow user expressed in a form that got King's imagination going. As you can undoubtedly sense, he had a thing for... Or what do I know.

Anyway, are you single then? How can I impress you? I don't speak French.

Such a shame I didn’t see it before.

French may be overrated, but it works!
“I speak French” is  the most efficient pick up line I have ever seen.
Many times I was introduced by “she speaks French” and had lots of people asking me to say something even though they could not understand a word of it.
I could say anything and the result was always the same.

Is it the most beautiful language, though? I don’t think there is such a thing, but I quite like Italian and Norwegian myself.

(BTW: Is Natalia a lesbian? Then so am I)

Nope. Of course not. Everyone knows that French is overrated. And probably It is going to sound a little bit biased, but there aren't any languages that are more beautiful than Ukrainian.

Neal o magari Aniello, sono assolutamente d’accordo con te. Una sola eccezione: l’italiano giuridico e gli articoli di fondo pubblicati da cert giornali seri. Troppo arzigogolati.

French.  Blah.  Who can trust a language where you spend half your time NOT pronouncing letters?
Italian is the most beautiful language in the world.  :-)

I love AirFrance safety instructions. I’m not sure if they still demonstrate it onboard but it’s so elegant and so French ( though I hadn’t been impressed by Paris except restaurants and amazingly beautiful chateauS around).

Enjoy!

In the XVIII century a Persian philosopher would adress himself to a German lady which he met in a literary salon in France calling her “mon amie”. Now it’s ringard = out of fashion
As the masculine “mon” instead of the feminine “ma” it’s a question of sound, you cannot juxtapose two “A” sounds

But none of what you said disproves that "mon amie" is still an irregularity in French. And I didn't even mention irregularities in French verbs. I mentioned that I'm well aware that there's a pronunciation reason for saying "mon amie". But it could've been simplified to "m'amie" instead of "mon amie" to remove the difficulty of juxtaposing two similar vowels. Of course, the effect of nasal and gliding consonants in facilitating the pronunciation of a combination of words with interfering vowels is well-known in linguistics but if we want to keep explaining things then almost everything in every language is always regular and when there's an irregularity it's probably due to our lack of knowledge. So, yeah. It's still an instance of irregularity in the French grammar in my opinion.

I mentioned in a previous post the verbe’z irréguliers

Ah, you're talking about history, Chizuko! :)
As you can see from this article
https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/5f6p6i/why_did_the_russian_aristocracy_speak_mainly/
French was the language of the nobility and of intellectuals (in fact, of anyone wishing to demonstrate their superiority) in the Russian Empire and large parts of Western Europe until well into the 20th century. Der Zauberberg (The Magic Mountain), a novel by German author Thomas Mann, published in 1924, contains pages and pages of dialogue in French - written under the assumption that anyone educated enough to read a novel that long (and boring ;) ) would be able to speak French.

@alpha The point was that it isn't "ma amie". How is that regular? I know that there's a pronunciation reason that it isn't "ma amie", but still. Plus, isn't girlfriend in French called "petite amie"? Have I been living a lie all the time? :P

If there are beautiful languages, then there must be ugly ones as well, right? So, what would be an ugly language?

That's right! That's what I'm thinking! I don't know who said French was the most beautiful language at first.
I heard that there was some trend of speaking French in the noble fashionable society when France was the strongest country. Probably it was around Elizabeth1 in England in 16c to French Revolution. I'm not sure but historically I heard many cultures from France was welcomed as noble in that time. The language, too.

To people who live at edge of the world,in Japan, such a historical trend didn't influence. Of course, Japanese love French cuisine and fashion now, but the foreign language which affected Japanese society was Dutch and Portuguese except for Asians like Chinese. They were first foreigners from Europe who came to Japan for the first time in 16c. Not French or British or American.
So, the idea that French is the most beautiful language does not make sense to me.
Then I wanted to know your ideas.

άλφα, Alharacas, KingS. Thank you for joining in French. It's effective to make atmosphere exotic. It matches this thread. I like it a lot!

Some might say that French nasal sounds is beautiful but it sounds like that all French people have cold to me.  ;)

To me, French is nice. Pretty easy, pretty regular, with a very learner-friendly relation between pronunciation and spelling - once you've managed to get your head around all these nasal sounds, that is. ;)

Is French really pretty regular, mon amie?

KS in French you would say “chère amie” since Alharacas isn’t your girlfriend

Yes, I do remember your question, Chizuko. What's more, I've been thinking about it for several days now.
No, I don't think French is the most beautiful language. I find the whole concept quite baffling. If there are beautiful languages, then there must be ugly ones as well, right? So, what would be an ugly language?
To me, French is nice. Pretty easy, pretty regular, with a very learner-friendly relation between pronunciation and spelling - once you've managed to get your head around all these nasal sounds, that is. ;)
But beautiful? I wonder if some people think so for the same mysterious reason that's made so many people consider Paris to be the city of love, or that's made so many European men decide  that French women are the sexiest - several more things which seem wholly inexplicable to me.

Though you could be offensive at the end, I've used you as an instrument in general.
True, and it's not a secret. It's obvious that practice makes skills perfect. I don't like to be sensitive and too polite.

Also, I considered our  " debates" as intellectual games. You sometimes could be hilarious and could play intellectual games.
However, you practically never could do it over a long distance. Just ponder over it.

You know, babe, when I train my staff how to communicate effectively, I always tell them to ask themselves a question: " What is your purpose?"
For me, the game is a purpose though on the edge. If the offense of me was a purpose for you, you did right ;P

First of all, the Polish are well-trained in handling intoxicated Russians - it's a hereditary trait at this point in history, so think of something that I could at least hypothetically find intimidating.
Second of all, had I been threatening you, you'd have been at your mama's lap crying by now. And since you're still here, I obviously did not threaten you today.

Just a friendly reminder, kiddos - don't make me switch accounts to take punitive actions today.

Oh, KS, can you link to any good sample of Farsi?

I go to sleep:)

Your issues with your style of writing, quoting people's posts in the wrong way and unnecessarily making parts of your post bold seem to be growing as you keep posting but I'm indifferent to what you post and I don't mind them. xD I just noticed that you have received a "Spammer 25 Posts in one day" badge! Well-deserved, Blonde. You earned it. xD

 ;D ;D ;D
А поржать сегодня?!)) No fun today?!))
See you some days later <3
Take care :P

That looks messy. Ask The Lost Minion to teach you how to quote people's posts properly. :P When are you going to learn the basics for God's sake?  ::) :P

 :D :D :D
Relaxed, bae
It’s mental issue and vodka. (Ok wine in my case:) Pointless. Just accept it or ignore it.

Double standards, Goddess ;P

Isn't it a universally accepted fact that Persian is the most beautiful language in the world? (particularly because it's my native language) HA!

Perhaps the reason is that I’m a lesbian as one smart ass had brilliantly noticed.

Yeah. Good argument. Most probably it had to do with your homosexual tendencies and perversions. :P But that's off-topic.

I was sure that Arabic and other similar, as I thought, languages sounded at least unattractive.
However, I changed my mind a month ago when got a message from my friend (as well as I know that Arabic is different   ::)  Her native language is Persian. Incredibly beautiful.

Perhaps the reason is that I’m a lesbian as one smart ass had brilliantly noticed.

So, if it had been a male voice, I wouldn’t have loved Persian, obviously  :D. Anyway,  I want to speak Persian one day.

I heard that French is the most beautiful language. Do you agree? Why?
Who decided it? Were any competitions before?
