General Discussion / Re: The Times They Are A-Changin
« Last post by MartinSR on December 03, 2022, 08:43:35 pm »
It looks that the whole world situation looks so bad that it exaggerated everything we could think of... Nobody wants to comment anything 🙄
Me, personally, hmm... everything I thought about how the life goes... seems to be upside down nowadays. So I started to withdraw from social life. I have my beloved wife and things we like to do together. I have a son who has his own life with its specific problems. And I have my internal world where I'm safe. These are the things I can be sure about. Besides I have the feeling that I know nothing about the world... and I'm not a person who comments easily on topics which I know nothing about...
I don't know if the others have similar feelings... or maybe a forum like this one is outdated (out of fashion) nowadays?
Stay warm and safe everyone 😀

« The Times They Are A-Changin » was singing Bob Dylan half a century ago. Times are not getting better since this website was a flourishing international board with people of countries all over the word.
Where are all gone?
I saw that today 15 persons were online, so I logged in. But no news. Sadly. All the best to all the former members of this board.

I’m in touch with my sister in Ukraine who left her own city to another place of Ukraine to survive.
It's sad, but there are many families in this situation. A few days ago I talked to a patient. She was mother who came to Poland with her child with serious disabilities (needing constant care and many medical procedures). They came from Kharkiv (Харкiв / Харков). Seeing her struggling to use an automatic translation app, I proposed that we could speak Russian. She told me her father was Ukrainian and her mother was Russian. She was raised in Kharkiv and considers herself Ukrainian. But her sister left Ukraine and settled down in Russia. Now they are separated by the war... and she had to emigrate, because living with her disabled son in a partially destroyed town was impossible.
It's even hard to imagine those dramas (not even thinking about people who lost their family members forever)...

I couldn’t happily celebrate the anniversary.

It is too sad for you, for your sister and all the people in Ukraine, Russia and the whole Europe.

I kept my husband’s grandfather medals and cried again.
I’ll never forget today and that days. Every life should be counted. But not…. As well as politics, business and ordinary people are not the same.

I will just repost a fragment of a private message (we exchanged some time ago):

"Of course it shouldn't be so... but we tend to be more sympathetic to people that look like we and live close to us.

[...]

But attacking the whole independent country... even considering is as a way of dealing with conflict  - it destroyed the sense of stability and safety for most European. We still remember from the 20th century history when one country systematically took its neighbours one by one while the other countries were saying "Oh no. Let him do so. It's their own business. He will take this country and leave us in peace." In fact he didn't. That's what the rest of Europe is afraid of. [...]"

Especially now, when we should happily celebrate the anniversary of the end of the WW2, we should feel safe, like we did during the previous years... thinking such things would not happen again  - I mean attacking one country by the other (for whatever reason). We thought that all European countries learned something from this painful lesson.
This year showed us  - not everyone learned... unfortunately....

Today is a Victory day in Russia and supposed to be all over the world as we have to remember the history.

It always was a painful and proud day. This year is even more painful because of Ukraine but the same time victory under  fascism is still the greatest victory. Me and all my friends are praying for peace. Many of ours have relatives in Ukraine and are partly Ukrainian. I consider myself Russian as I was born and live in St Petersburg but I’m partly Ukrainian by father’s side. My father died 3 years ago there and I consider his step daughter as my sister. She loves me too … still luckily. But  there are a lot of hate around.

I hope people can see people not politics as well as consider an every single life as important.
One of my Italki friends sent me this video a month ago:

Happiness and peace to everyone. Especially to our neighbour country  to survive this evil attack and to preserve its independence.

Bravo to the resistance in Ukraine 🇺🇦 and to the solidarity shown in Poland 🇵🇱 and other neighboring countries.

Happy 2022...
I have little time recently... and had some private/work problems last year... so I'm not a frequent guest here.

Happiness and peace to everyone. Especially to our neighbour country  to survive this evil attack and to preserve its independence.
