I don`t know what it is either. Is it like using your iPhone to pay for something? I`ve seen people who do that, but have never used anything like that myself.

QR was introduced in the US a few years ago but strangely it never took off. It seems like such a good idea.

Young people(includes me) in Japan use QR code. They use it by the smartphone. I sometimes use it. It's convenient if you get used to it.

I'm not sure I can explain it, but I'll try.

Procedure: To get a thicket with a QR code.
 When you want to go to the movie, first, go to the website of the theater at home. Then book the seat. They send e-mail to you. There is a QR code in the text. You arrive to the theater. There is a check-in machine at the gate. You take your smartphone out your pocket and open your email. You get your phone touch the screen of the machine with the page of the QR code your received. Then you get a ticket of paper. No typing at all. No voice. Just touch it. No need standing in line for ticket.

Example 1:
When I booked a ticket of soccer game, I didn't get a paper ticket. Just show the QR code to the staff at the entrance. No typing. No voice. Just showing it.

Example 2:
When I saw some advertisements of concerts on the train, they had QR codes on the flyer then I took a picture of the QR code.
Then I opened their websites from the QR code later at home.  No typing. Just click it.

See? we are a part of robots, which I wrote about in SHL's tread, "Social media" Let's enjoy technology.....

Some people say they worry about their personal data are scammed or stolen when you get QR code. But I don't know about it. Intelligent sneaky people don't say anything what they are doing.

Yes, I agree with you.  I don't know what system or program of QR code , but if I book something, QG code takes(scans) my booked numbers and my name, I think. I use a credit card to pay but I don't think my data of credit card is stolen by QR cord. But I can't prove it technically. I can just say that I've never gotten it stolen yet.

I read Alharacas's thread about VPN just now. I didn't know VPN and googled it, then I found my iPhone has VPN as a function for security. It's for when I use the iPhone with free WiFi. Well...it's a cat‐and‐mouse game in the internet world.
 

There is a difference between the use of QR code like Blonde describes, I.e. as a way to go to a given website and the code you find on electronic tickets. Probably the technique is the same but the use is different.
The first use (link to a website) isn�t popular where I live.
The second one (identification of an electronic ticket one bought by internet) is widespread.

Right, right. Visiting some websites with QR code. Using QR code instead of ID for getting a ticket. I use both way.
And extra info:
"LINE" is chatting app like Skpe and you can exchange your LINE ID with your friend with QR code.
"Messager" links Instagram so Facebook leaks your data to Instagram.
And..anything else? Living in the internet makes me dizzy. I can't stop using though.

Yes Neal, there is only one of me I suppose. Ah, maybe a few out there too. I think the PSL crowd would like me. Their headquarters is in San Francisco and one in Washington DC. I`ll have to go introduce myself someday.

I do think I�m in a definite minority when it comes to people in the US in that not too many have a huge East German flag on their wall next to the dining room table 

QR codes are massive in China. I even saw a person begging for money in the street who had, in addition to the hat, a QR code printed on a cardboard � I suppose it was the link to his Zhifubao/Weixin account. Plus, this system is quite handy if you're absent-minded because you don't need to carry any cash or plastic cards on you, your phone is enough for (almost) everything.
There are some disadvantages of course. First, everything gets really complicated if something happens to your phone. I once tried to pay for electricity in person when my phone died, and this simple procedure that normally takes a few seconds (+ a couple of minutes of сrying over your hard-earned money) took a few hours, no joking. Second, buying something illegal using Zhifubao is probably not the best idea ever, and I believe that it's not that difficult to hack my phone and find out where exactly I do my laundry and what kind of grammar mistakes I constantly make (I always use 个 if I can't remember the correct count-classifier... yeah, I know, shameful). So if you're really concerned about your privacy, you'd better stick with cash and... well, more usual ways of getting information?

Alharacas, but you can choose contactless payment as an option in Germany, can't you?

Actually there's one more thing I can think of with regards to QR codes. As many other things, they can also be used as a way to express yourself. For example, one of my friends has a tatoo with the QR code you can see in this clip:



If you scan it, you'll get the message "миру�мир"* which is one of the main messages of the song -

*"peace to the world", lit. "to the world�peace"; in Russian the words "world" and "peace" are homonyms).
